Approach
I am a board-certified behavior analyst and licensed behavior analyst who deeply admire the bravery it takes for individuals to seek therapy in pursuit of growth and improvement. My goal is to honor this courage by offering a personalized, evidence-based approach that fosters lasting socially significant change. A strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of my work, and I strive to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment.
My approach integrates Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) with performance arts—such as music, role-play, and imitation—to enhance a variety of skills, including communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation. Central to this approach are Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that are customized for each client based on a thorough assessment of their unique needs and therapy goals. The BIPs also include Skill Acquisition Goals aimed at building new abilities that improve the client’s overall quality of life. Here’s how my approach works:
- Data-Driven Progress: ABA relies on the collection of data to monitor progress and guide interventions. By consistently tracking client behavior and responses, we make informed decisions to adjust the therapeutic approach over time. Whether the goals involve increasing social skills, improving communication, or managing emotions, data helps us see what’s working and where adjustments are needed. Each client’s BIP is tailored to these data points, outlining goals and interventions designed to make meaningful progress in a measurable way.
- Individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with Skill Acquisition Goals: Each client’s BIP is highly personalized, based on a comprehensive assessment of their current behaviors, strengths, and areas for improvement. The BIP includes both behavior reduction strategies and Skill Acquisition Goals to build new, adaptive behaviors. These goals are specific to each individual and may focus on a range of areas, including:
- Communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal)
- Social interaction (turn-taking, initiating conversations, understanding social cues)
- Emotional regulation (managing stress, expressing emotions appropriately)
- Daily living skills (self-care, organization, independence)
- Cognitive skills (problem-solving, decision-making)
Skill Acquisition
The Skill Acquisition Goals are designed to help clients learn and practice new abilities that enhance their independence, social functioning, and overall quality of life. Each goal is broken down into smaller, manageable steps, and progress is regularly monitored through data collection to ensure success. The use of performance arts—such as music and role-play—is integrated into these plans to make learning more engaging and enjoyable.
- Performance Arts as Therapeutic Tools: I use performance arts like music, role-play, and imitation exercises to make therapy both effective and enjoyable. These creative methods are tailored to each client’s goals and are particularly helpful for practicing social skills, communication, and emotional expression in a safe, supportive setting. Whether it’s through singing, playing instruments, or engaging in role-play scenarios, clients can practice their new skills in a dynamic and interactive way, reinforcing positive behaviors and facilitating skill acquisition.
- Building Self-Awareness and Empowerment: ABA not only focuses on behavior change but also empowers clients by helping them recognize their strengths. As clients work towards their Skill Acquisition Goals, they gain confidence and self-awareness, realizing their capacity to master new skills. Performance arts provide a unique avenue for clients to express themselves, develop their abilities, and celebrate their progress, further boosting self-esteem and fostering a sense of accomplishment.
